Synopsis:While she sleeps beside a log on the wild Oregon coast, a rogue wave pulls Marissa into the sea. Now she dreams each night of a merman who rescues her. Obsessed with returning to this beautiful creature, she again risks her life in the frigid ocean.
Will Marissa remain lost forever in the eddies of her mind, or can real love save her from the abyss? Sometimes, the dangers which lie within are the deadliest.

My thoughts: When I first saw and started to read this book, I thought is was going to be about a girl who fell in love with a merman and her journey to find him. Well this is not the case, it is more a book about her journey to find herself within the traps of her mind, life and surroundings. Marissa becomes obsessed with the idea of the merman that she practically ends up in the psychiatric ward for her "attempted" suicide. She has so much going on in her life from an ex-boyfriend who cheated on her, dealing with a mother that is so self-absorbed that she drowns in her own misery, and a secret that she hasn't yet to truly come to terms with. I believe these all factor into Marissa's meltdown but also will be the keys to her discovering how to recover and be able to love. This story was more of a mind game than a romance for me, the male love interest seems loyal and adorable but it was all Marissa and her struggles with fighting her ghosts from the past and dealing with the one's in the present.     Overall, an okay read about overcoming obstacles, love and friendship.

  1. My favorite thing to do as a child was play "library." And that is one of the reasons why I just received my Master of Library Science degree in December. :-)

  9. I need to get a Google account or something. You and Tiffany need to help me figure this bloggy stuff out. I'm not sure if I would read this one. It sounds like there is a lot going on in the book and that can get confusing. looks like you were asking people to share something fun about themselves. Hmm, I guess my "fun" fact is that my parent's house is three geodesic domes connected together. Looks like three igloos attached together.
