Synopsis:Tamani looked at her gravely, and reached up to tuck her hair behind her ear.
He hesitated for an instant, then his hands found the sides of her face, pulling her to him. He didn't kiss her, just held her face close to his, their foreheads resting together, their noses almost touching.
She hated how much it felt like good-bye.
Laurel now knows the truth: Yuki is a rare Winter faerie, the most powerful—and deadly—of all, and Klea plans to use her to help conquer and destroy Avalon. But Klea's reach extends far beyond one wild Winter faerie. With Tamani, David, and Chelsea by her side, Laurel prepares to face what may be Avalon's final days, in the stunning conclusion to the Wings series.
Review: I have devoured every book in this series, and right from the beginning I knew I loved it. Most especially Tamani and it is too bad he is a fictitious character. He is just so cool, loyal and protective of Laurel. David is my least favorite other than Klea, he just rubs me the wrong way but he plays an interesting role in the efforts to help Avalon. Laurel has grown so much since the beginning of this series though she has more to learn in this book and the question is will she truly come to terms with the desires of her heart. David or Tamani? I'll never tell. There is one scene where everyone is doing something, they have a mission and Laurel just seems to be in the way, which she notices but really what else could she do right at that moment. She is not a fighter, she doesn't have it in her to hurt anyone but she is not weak in the sense that her love for her friends is a strong characteristic that I like about her.The pace for this book is a bit up and down, some moments read quickly and others not so much but I still couldn't put it down. Pike has woven an beautifully vivid atmospheric setting in Avalon. It is no wonder that Laurel and her companions will risk their lives to save it from the evil that seeks to destroy it. The battle has begun but will they survive and at what cost? Overall, great read that I would recommend to readers of this series and fantasy lovers.
Cover Review: I love this cover because it is blue and because it is a simple beauty. Just lovely!
Other books in this series:
I just love Love Triangles ! I know some think they are boring, and so many authors use them, but I really enjoy a book that has a love triangle !
ReplyDeleteI think love triangles are really great when they're believable! I don't really like them when I can't understand em or I think it's fake. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the cover, it is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI never get tired of love triangles, but often a bit peeved when one of them is clearly put in favorable light while the other is set up to be completely abhorred.

ReplyDeleteI like love triangles but I do agree that they are a bit overdone.

OMG!!! I totally heart love triangle. I don't care if they make my heart tear into two like Clockwork Prince did to me. It's just SO good. But since love triangle became a trend in YA fiction nowadays, I do see some made it a little over the top. But those are just minor stuff. So, I definitely love a love triangle story =D
ReplyDeleteP/S: Thanks for the giveaway!

I absolutely love love triangles. Most books I have read had some kind of love triangle in it. Its what makes a book fun !
ReplyDeleteI really like love triangles but not in every single YA book.
ReplyDeleteI do like love triangles - if they are done right. Some of my favourites are the love triangle in Unearthly, Infernal Devices,Covenant series etc. Though some do bore me to death.
ReplyDeletea love triangle gives the story an exciting twist and added thrill on who will end up with who. :) I just love love triangles though the guy I usually vie for doesn't end up with the girl protagonist.
ReplyDeleteLove triangles are good sometimes, but it's important to make the characters real and believable. If the way to do that is to avoid a love triangle, instead placing some barriers between the two in love or something, then that option might lend itself to more depth. Sexual tension is an excellent way to bring the readers deeper into the story, so as long as it is done well, I don't mind it and often enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI really like this cover too! I think it's a nice throw back to the first cover since the series is ending :(
ReplyDeleteAs for love triangles, I don't mind them as long as it's not the "I've known one guy forever, but I just met this other guy and he's really hot/mysterious so I choose him" type. I like how Laurel had a past with Tamani even if she didn't remember at first. So yeah, I think the love triangles where the person in the middle has a deep history with both sides are the best, which is one reason why I loved this series so much.
They can get a little old. Sometimes they don't really make sense but when they do they make for a fantastic read.
ReplyDeleteIf they're done right, as in, the middle man is in conflict with two others, then i guess their fine. most of the time i find them overplayed, somewhat predictable too. But sometimes they make the book good, sometime not. Sometimes them make me want to scream, like Pandemonium's love triangle. Why can't the main character just be with one person!
ReplyDeleteI think they can get a bit redundant especially If the the person you want doesn't win!
ReplyDeleteI don't care for love triangles. They split fans of novels into factions based on who the main character should end up with. They cause disappointment when the character doesn't end up with the one you wanted. and they set bad examples for those people trying to figure out relationships. Still I love this series and I have loved faeries since I was little. I am counting the days til Destined comes out!
ReplyDeleteI actually love love triangles if they're well done with interesting characters that don't depend on physical attraction only.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy them...keeps you interested in the story to see who will be chosen, but I don't like it to be too predictable.

Thanks for the giveaway! I think love triangles keep things interesting - and they provide a way for people to get on "teams" and get more into the story of the book.
ReplyDeleteI like them most of the time. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI like them especially if the characters in the triangle are hard to choose from. It makes me wanting to see who will be chosen and why.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the international giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I like love triangles in YA because they're helpful to create a little bit of suspense. But the fact is that when you start supporting one team everything change! Just like for The Infernal Devices, I loved the triangle but now I desperately want Jem out of the way (Yes, I'm cruel) :D

I love this series and I can't wait to find out the ending! The last book left me on such a cliff hanger I literally screamed out loud a little when I finished! By the way, Team Tamani! Thanks for the giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy a good love triangle in a book and I especially love it when both guys in the series are so great in their own individual ways that the reader can't even decide which the main character should end up with. About half way through reading Ilusions I decided she had to end up with Tamani, but when reading the Hunger Games, I really couldn't decide but I was happy with the decision and I understood why.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of problems with love triangles but if its written well, like in Wings, then I'll read it. :) Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteIt depends on how the love triangle is depicted in the story. If it's written the right way then it's almost suspenseful wondering which one will be chosen in the end.
ReplyDeleteI love these books! after reading the third book I really don't know how the forth is going to be like. I didn't expect the the third book to end like that but I loved it! Can't wait for this one :)
ReplyDeleteI love books about love triangles when they are done right!
ReplyDeleteLove triangles can be so complicated but Aprilynne gives David and Tamani so much detail that it is hard to pick which one I like best.
ReplyDelete-Megan P.
I don't mind a love triangle as long as it doesn't drag on too long. I believe in a little healthy competition. I am sorry I couldn't like on Facebook. It keeps locking me out. I fix it and soon it does it again. Just so you know, I do like ya'll:)
ReplyDeleteI agree when a love triangle is done well it can draw the reader more into the book but when it is done poorly...it just becomes frustrating. BTW, I am Team Tamani, if you didn't guess from the review. LOL thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI like them, but sometimes I wish the main character would choose someone.
ReplyDelete(Emily R. in rafflecopter!)
I have no problem with love triangles--they're part of some of the greatest romantic fiction works of all time, like Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre--but I hate when a certain trend gets picked up and overused just because it's trendy. I feel like that's been happening way too much in YA lately, not only with love triangles. It's an unfortunate side effect of YA exploding in popularity, which is in itself a good thing.
ReplyDeleteMy concern with love triangles is there is always a loser. Also the girl should not string two guys along.
ReplyDeleteI always feel bad for the one that's left out!
ReplyDeleteThere are love triangles which I love and then there are love triangles which I don't get at all.
ReplyDeleteI think it all goes down to how they are presented and the characters involved.
They can be interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt completely depends on the book. I think that the triangle in the Wings series is the one that has made me the angriest. To the point that I want to jump into the pages and whoop up on Tamani and Laurel and tell sweet David that he deserves so much better. This one definitely got to me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

Thanks for the giveaway! I really don't like love triangles. I think it adds way too many problems to the book, and if my favorite love interest doesn't get picked, it almost makes the book(s) not as good to me.
ReplyDeleteOMG!! I can't wait to read it!!
ReplyDeleteSrry, I forgot to add that I love love triangles!
DeleteI love it - it adds great tension and romance to the plot!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Leanne
I think love triangles in YA create some entertaining drama. Sometimes though they can get annoying. Lately I have been having a big problem with love triangles though, because I realised that I've NEVER backed the guy who in the end got the girl.
ReplyDeleteI like love triangles so long as they are done correctly (e.g. Clockwork Prince). I think too often love triangles are a lame way to create plot action when the driving action isn't enough.
ReplyDeleteGenerally, I really like love triangles. However, there are some that are very adolescent and childish (ahemTwilightahem), and those I really dislike. A lot. But there are some which are really sweet and romantic, and I'm stuck in the same dilemma as the heroine! It's fun reading how the characters handled things in certain circumstances, but I love the protective and possessiveness of the heroes most when it comes to love triangles.
ReplyDeleteNice review! Glad you liked Destined (it's the last in the series right?), and yes, I didn't like David at all! Only a little at the start of Wings cause he was one of the only kindred spirits there to be friends with Laurel, but after that, I just thought he was a nuisance, and Laurel was treating Tamani so bad, most of the time because of David. I've seen quite some readers rooting for David, and was wondering if I was the only one who didn't like him. Well, glad I'm not!:P
I like love triangles, but sometimes I get mad because I liked more the other guy, than the one she choose! I this happening more and more!! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletei think love triangles make books dramatic and intriguing (even though we kinda know who the protagonist is going to end up with).
ReplyDeleteLove triangles will make the story dramatic and there will be exciting twist.!!! I like it to be more dramatic because i can really feel the characters in a certain book even though I know i'm a easily get carried away by their feelings. Btw, thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting I guess.. but sometimes the book (some books, not all) just focuses on the relationships too much.
ReplyDelete@CYP...lol, no you are not the only one that didn't care much for David. :) yes, I'm kinda sad that it's over cause I'll miss reading about Tamani!
ReplyDeleteSomwtimes I think that they are overdone, and sometimes I think that they are perfect!
ReplyDeleteI think love triangles are really fun, if they're done right, like Cassie Clare's Jem/Tessa/Will triangle. That is a true love TRIANGLE, not a weird quadrangle thing that is in most books. I also think they *might* be a bit overdone, but I still love them anyway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
For me Love Triangles in YA is alright as long as it is written in such a way that it doesn't tell something bad... But sometimes I read books that emphasize so much on love triangles that the story revolves in it, and I don't like those type of books (unless it's purely a love story, and it is written in a mild manner)... Sometimes love triangles make the story more interesting and the story receives more twists and turns... Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about love triangles, sometimes I hate them and think they're overdone. Other times I'm ok with it.
ReplyDeleteI like them they make the book a little more interesting & they never fail to snatch me in a book. LOVE them!
ReplyDeleteLisseth @read-a-holicz.blogspot.com
I'm okay with it since love triangles, most of the time, drives the story forward and can create conflicts which can make the book more interesting. I just don't like it when there's a love triangle but it's so obvious who the female lead will pick.
ReplyDeleteThey have always been hard for me to understand. Because I have never experienced what that would be like. I have always thought once you are in love you are in love. But there always seems to be another male character in these book with love triangles that seems perfect too. But in truth there is always one that stands alone. It just is heart breaking when you as the reader love both main male characters but one will not get the girl. So I always think to myself that there is another girl out there for him that he just needs to find.
ReplyDeletelove triangles gives conflicts, twist and annoyance sometimes..:)
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway..:)
I think it leads to a lot more twists and turns in the plot in a YA book. Young people have to make choices so I think having these kinds of situations in books is a good thing. It shows how to make the right and wrong choices.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter :)
ReplyDeleteI personally think that love triangles make the books much more interesting :D
Thanks for the international giveaway!!
It depends on the triangle. When they are just done for the purpose of having a triangle, but are not believable, they are annoying.
ReplyDelete~Shel
I hate love-triangles! and I especially hate this one! it's so messed up but I am a HUGE fan of the series (I must be a massochist) and I can't wait to see who ends up with who. My bet's on Tamani, she was with him in the last book and this one is supposedly set in a 24-hour period
ReplyDeletethanks for the review & giveaway! *crosses fingers*
They don't bug me too badly I guess. Although they do tend to get a bit annoying since there is one in just about every YA book. It's refreshing when there is only one love interest :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
I think it's what makes every book interesting...
ReplyDeleteI don't mind love triangles in YA as long as it is an age appropriate love triangle.
ReplyDeleteI have a serious love-hate relationship with love triangles. Especially when they're done very well.
ReplyDeleteI think when done well they are good and add to the story. But at times it feels like they are thrown in to be popular and then they are just annoying.
ReplyDeleteIt makes them more interesting sometimes but sometimes it annoys me when there are two love interests because people divide into two different factions and if its not the pair that some likes people sometimes dismiss the book/series.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a good love triangle, but prefer it when there's one clear "winner".
ReplyDeleteI think love triangles add a lot of drama to the story but I praise authors who can beautifully execute a great love triangle. I am tooootallllly psyched about this book. I have been a huge fan of the series since the very beginning. I can't wait to read the amazing conclusion to this series!! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteIf they are well written with engaging boys or girls then I love them. If not I just tend to get annoyed at the whole thing and rat it out more. Fab giveaway! Thanks! I've wanted the last installment for this series for a while!
ReplyDeleteIt depends for me. There are times when I've read twelve or so book all with love triangles - I'm not such a fan then.
ReplyDeleteBut I think they have their place. Sometimes I adore them.
To be honest, I am getting a little tired of them. Some are engaging, but most of the time, it's pretty predictable about who will end with whoever. And it really perturbs me when it ends a little too nicely.
ReplyDeleteI think love triangles are wonderful if you're on the winning team, but if you're rooting for the guy that gets dumped than it just kinds sucks :P But their always immensely entertaining to me, so I guess I love them.
ReplyDeleteI hate them. I mean, absolutely despise them. I want them to die and never be brought back. I will put off reading a book that I desperately want to read if I know it has one until I know how it will turn out.
ReplyDeleteI love love traiangles done right but if not, they just frustrate me.
ReplyDeleteI am torn between liking it and hating it. Because what if she chooses who I wouldn't choose would I like the book less because of it? Endure by Carrie Jones is an example of who I hope she chooses the Pixie King instead of where she started out as and if she doesn't end up with him, I think I will be sad.
ReplyDeleteI personally love one good written love triangle :) I think it spice up the book :)
ReplyDeletexoxo
I'm sick of love triangles. I hate the awkward feeling you get with them, and hate how someone always gets hurt :(
ReplyDeleteGood if they are well written and I actually choose the guy who the girl gets, haha. Great if both men are strong characters and not whinny like Shay (Nightshade)...
ReplyDeleteI love love triangles...Gale
ReplyDeleteThey certainly make things more interesing if they're done well!!
ReplyDeleteIf they are done right and actually seem like the main characters legitimately likes both of them then they are good but I hate that someone always gets hurt.
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of love triangles, but some books have love triangles that end well. What I hate is for a love triangle to be "resolved" when one of them dies.
ReplyDeleteI like them to an extent. They can really make or break a book.
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate feeling towards love triangles... I think it depends on how the author portrays their characters.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway! I LOVE this series!!!
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!
I like them up to a certain point. Sometimes authors have love triangles when there doesn't need to be one and that can get annoying
ReplyDeleteI like them, but if it goes on to long it does get annoying!!! My favorites are the ones where you really love both guys and can't decide who the girl is better with!!!
ReplyDelete
