What's up on my reading?

I am currently reading the Mortal Instruments series book one City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, and I must say so far I like it. I am awaiting the final book in the Hunger Games series, and trying to incorporate some adult fiction into my life again. Just finished Blood Game by Iris Johansen, the Eve Duncan series, which I love, love.I like mystery, suspense, and romance novels. However, I like Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series about the fairies, take note though these are some hot books. I have a trunk full of books that I intend to read.

2010 Census

So my project for this semester as an GTA in Government Documents is to locate events that we can participate in or host in Tuscaloosa or on campus. This event would need to increase awareness about the Census as well as encourage participation amongst the students and the community. I also have to create a libguide containing Census information. I have no idea what to do, though I'm sure my brain will click eventually, and everything will fall into place.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

I get to intern at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham this semester. I am excited about discovering if special librarianship is the direction I want to go. I will possibly get to do some archiving work in the rare books section, which is really cool because the library may start digitizing the archive collection. I am thrilled because I'm interested in photography and learning as much as I can about that. Ms. Hope Long is my supervisor and she asked me what I wanted to do with the internship and I really don't know what I want to focus on. I try not to limit myself because there is so much I like to do and I want to learn every aspect as I can, mostly because I'm in a field where anything is possible.

Shadowland

This is book three in the Immortals series and I find myself becoming annoyed with the main character Ever, she is so impatient. Ever reminded me of how in the Twilight series, which I like, Bella worked my nerves too, yet I will patiently wait for the next installment to see how Ever grows.

Spring Semester

I have a full load this semester. A job working in Hoole Special Collections, my assistantship in Gov. Docs. and an internship at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Along with these, I'm taking three courses, and have organization stuff to attend to as well. I am once again a BUSY BEE!!!

Tiger Thompson

In our directed study looking through some of the newspaper articles and pictures found things that intrigued me. For example, the Little Tiger Thompson article is the one I remember the most. He was 8- years-old and the youngest disc jockey. He worked at WEDR and had his own radio show, making 10 dollars a week, I believe. In the article it talks about how at the age of three he was spinning records, and he was able to work the controls and put together his own program. Little Tiger's show was apparently very popular with children and adults as he received countless letters every week. I find Tiger Thompson impressive as at very young age, he was able to speak and articulate in a way that reached a broad audience.

Last Day

Today was our last day at the Birmingham Black Radio Museum, we accomplished so much this semester. We learned to how to organize a collection, create a mission statement and collection development policy, and prepare materials for preservation. We also created metadata and finding aids to locate items in the collection. We had our final meeting with Bob to give him details on what we did and give him a few suggestions of what needs to happen next. This semester went by so fast, and I feel like we just started the project, as we really began to get into a rhythm towards the end. We struggled in the beginning as we tried to organize the collection by radio station, because that's what Bob wanted. However, finally we felt it was better to arrange everything by year and later finding aids could be created to catalog by radio station, or person. I'm really satisfied with what we were able to get done, some days were good days, and some not so productive.I will miss all the people we meet while working there.
