I have posted a sign-up form at the bottom of this post and if enough people are interested this will be in the mail within the week.

Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Expected Release: May 22, 2018

The stunningly original, must-read fantasy of 2018 follows two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.

When assassins ambush her best friend, the crown prince, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing her ability to perform all seven kinds of elemental magic. The only people who should possess this extraordinary power are a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light and salvation and a queen of blood and destruction. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven trials to test her magic. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.

A thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a mere fairy tale to bounty hunter Eliana Ferracora. When the Undying Empire conquered her kingdom, she embraced violence to keep her family alive. Now, she believes herself untouchable--until her mother vanishes without a trace, along with countless other women in their city. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain on a dangerous mission and discovers that the evil at the heart of the empire is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world--and of each other.

Review: Sever by Lauren DeStefano

Author:  Lauren Destefano
Title: Sever
Series: The Chemical Garden Trilogy
Publication: February 12, 2013
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Source: AroundtheWorldArcTours
Synopsis
Time is running out for Rhine in this conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Chemical Garden Trilogy.

With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.

Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.

In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered.

Thoughts:Having escaped her plight in the red light district and making it home in the previous book, Rhine finds herself back where it all began. Desperate to protect her sister-wife, she pleads with Linden to keep her safe. Torn between his love for his wives and his father, Linden seeks out his father's estranged brother to house Rhine until she is well enough to travel. As her brother, Rowan's, antics become more frequent, Rhine is determined to reach him as she may be the only one to stop his madness but what she discovers is more sinister and confusing than she could ever imagine.

Rhine is an alright as female lead, she knows what she wants but she doesn't and this leads to emotional turmoil. What she seems able to find in abundance is trouble every time she runs, she finds herself in more precarious situations and further from the freedom she so desires. Now, the character that most intrigues me would be the one left in the dark, Linden, it's his desire to believe in the good of his father and Rhine that makes him so appealing. Of all the characters his intentions seemed the most innocent and caused me the most conflict as he was seen as the enemy but I couldn't help rooting for him to get the "main" girl, Rhine in the end. Vaughn, the scientifically calculating mastermind makes me sick to my stomach, his only saving grace is his love for his son, other than that the man is crazy.

The whole disease defect concept is interesting yet I still don't get it nor the how or why Rhine is so important. The whole taking girls to make them into baby making machines to keep the population going and to have test subjects seems cruel and quite disturbing. I really was not expecting that ending, absolutely shocking.  This is truly a warped dystopian society. Overall, the writing is well done and though the story moves slowly for me, this is a thought provoking read. So, I recommend it to those that like twisted dystopian books.

Lullaby by Amanda Hocking

Harper only wanted a safe, normal life. But when her younger sister Gemma runs off with a dangerous clique of beautiful girls, Penn, Thea, and Lexi, everything changes. Vowing to get her sister back no matter what the cost, Harper must face dangers unlike any she's ever experienced. Fortunately, she has Daniel by her side, a gorgeous guy who's devoted to helping her find her sister—and who's immune to the girls' dark powers.

While Harper searches for her sister, Gemma struggles to adjust to her new life. Gemma's powers are growing by the day, and the longer she lives with her new "sisters," the harder it is to resist entering their magical world. It's a realm both dark and beautiful, and where she's plagued by strange hungers and unspeakable needs. Just as she's drifting far away from her old life, Harper and Daniel find her...but no one can deny how much she's changed. All she wants is to return to her family and the mortal world, but how can she do that when she's become something else entirely—and will they still love her once they learn the truth?

Prepare to fall under the spell of Lullaby, the second book in the Watersong series from New York Times bestselling author Amanda Hocking.

Thoughts:She's stronger, more beautiful and she can turn into a mermaid. What more could Gemma want? Her life back, her family and to not become a monster like Penn. Gemma is doing her best to fight the change, now that she is a Siren. She refuses to kill anyone just for her survival and no matter how strong the ocean's call, she feels she doesn't deserve even that perk...well until her hair starts falling out.

Harper's love for Gemma is strong; she has practically raised her as her own. She vows that no matter what, she will get her sister back and find a way to reverse the curse. She's teamed up with Daniel, the hot boat guy and Gemma’s boyfriend Alex. Sadly, every piece of information they find leads them no closer to finding Gemma nor a way to fix the curse. Harper also has to come to terms with how she feels about Daniel and whether she is willing to give herself that chance at love.

I liked this one more than the first mostly because I was able to connect with Harper and Daniel. I think the heat between them is magnetic. Hocking's writing is good with a quick pace to the plot, so it didn't really drag on. This series is the first I've read by Hocking and think it's an interesting concept. Mythology was my favorite subject in school, so I love stories that put a new spin on them. I'm intrigued to see how Hocking will explain the mystery surrounding the boys of Capri. Overall, good read.

Every day Violet Eden wonders whether she made the right choice.
She still doesn't fully understand these powers she's been granted as a half-angel Grigori.  And worse, isn't even sure she's capable of using them. Stab someone through the heart? Really?
No matter how bad things get, though, Violet doesn't run and she doesn't quit. Even if it means she can never allow herself to love the guy she longs for. Even if it means asking her enemy for help. Even if no one is telling her the truth.
The war between Exiles and Angels is on—and she's wanted by both sides.

Review: Violet is now a Grigori and she is still coming to terms with her new identity. She is struggling with anxiety issues, the idea of using her dagger to return exiles, and over the thought of which part of herself she destroyed in the desert. She is no longer wrapped up in the emotional tangle that Phoenix had her in and he currently shows no signs of feeling any emotion towards her except hate. He could easily kill her but toys with her on occasion plus he knows something---he needs Violet. In addition to that Lincoln is being distant and keeping something from her.

Entice has so much going on from the relationships, Violet's destiny,an unknown traitor, and the location of the Scriptures. None of them really understand what the Scriptures can do but they will eventually realize that what Phoenix wants them for is much more sinister than they could possibly imagine. I am hoping that whatever hold  Phoenix has over Violet will go away. I heart Lincoln, though in the beginning of the book not so much but towards the middle, he began to do somewhat of a turnaround and the heat between him and Violet was just right when it happened. They both struggle with the reality that Grigori partners are not allowed to pursue a relationship. Why? Because Grigori rules state that partners being together can lead to unpredictable  consequences for one or both partners. However, there is always an exception to a rule...maybe Lincoln and Violet will have hope after all.

I am thrilled about the new characters that are introduced in this book; Zoe, Spence, Nyla , Rudyard and Salvatore are all great additions to this series and I look forward to seeing how they flesh out in the next book.Overall, this book was actually better than the first one for me. The religious hints add depth and intrigue to the story background. The writing style colorfully conveys the emotions of the characters and gives a realistic view of the settings. The historical aspects for this book are pretty cool as well as the different abilities that each of the Grigori possess. So, I think I know who Violet's angel parent is and this is going to be very interesting when she figures it out.
