ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Jonathan headshotJonathan Yanez was born and raised in a Christian household in Oxnard, CA. He was involved in everything from piano and saxophone lessons to swimming and track.
Growing up his parents encouraged him to read, and he did - anything he could get his hands on. Soon he developed a fascination with storytelling and characters that would follow him the rest of his life.

Graduating from BIOLA University with his BA in English Literature he never lost his love for writing and creating. He now works part-time as a personal trainer and hopes to one day make the move to writing full-time.

Other than reading and writing, his passion is living life to the fullest. He loves; spending time with his wife and pets, watching movies, participating in mud runs, traveling, going to the gym and pushing his limits in everything. This desire takes him anywhere from skydiving and motorcycle riding, to surfing in Hawaii and various types of martial arts. He has his eyes set next on archery and running with the bulls in Spain.

He is married to the love of his life and resides in Southern California with his husky, Daphne and cat, Helen.

Do you see writing as a career?
Most definitely. I’ve already made the move from working full time and writing on the side to now writing full time and working part time. I’m hoping to be able to write full time in the next 6 to 9 months.

Who or what is your inspiration?
I look for inspiration on a daily basis; music, movies, books they all spark interest and a desire to write.

Do you have any pets?
Yes a cat with two different colored eyes named Helen and a husky with way too much energy, Daphne.

Early bird or night owl?
I would rather get up early. Personally I’ve found that mornings are the best time to write.

Any tips for new writers?
Keep at it no matter what. You will get better. You will be successful if you don’t stop. Writing is like everything else and practice is key.

If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why?
I’d be a cleat so when I felt tired or like I wasn’t making progress I could dig in and push forward.

If you could live in any movie, which would it be?
My wife and I have a joke that I would have made a great cowboy riding across the open country causing trouble.

Guilty Pleasure?
I’m a personal trainer so I know I shouldn’t say this but I LOVE food. I wish there was only one weakness but I like them all; pizza, cake, chips, pie, hamburgers hotdogs, chines food, etc. It’s because of this I workout 5 times a week and run like a madman.

Are there scenes or people in your book that you took from your real life?
All the time. A good example is Marshall’s dog in Bad Land. George was the name of a beagle that belonged to my brother-in-law and sister.

If your book was made into a movie, who would you like to see play your characters?
In The Elite Series I think John Glover, the actor who played Lynol Luther in Smallville would make a great Vercin.

Do you use a playlist while you write and what is on it?
I go back and forth when it comes to writing with music on. If I do have it on I listen to a lot of Imagine Dragons, Muse, Macklemore and Lorde is pretty good too.

Which character in your book would you most like to hang out with?
Probably Lu, but I think I would get along with most of them. He and I would have the most in common.

Most embarrassing moment of yours and/or what would your favorite character do if they witnessed it?
Lu would definitely laugh. I’d hope after he was done he’d help me up and find me some clothes.

In a zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice?
So with actual weapons probably some kind of large machine gun. But if we are ever able to create lightsabers, Darth Maul’s double bladed lightsaber would be pretty cool.

Are you working on anything new? How is it going?
Yes, the third installment of The Elite Series is almost finished. I know that it hasn’t taken that long to write but since I already know what is going to happen in my head I wish I could type faster to get it all out.
