Tell us about Kaleb Nation and what inspired you to write Harken?
I'm 24 years old and I live in Hollywood, California, with my chinchilla named Chilla. Conspiracy theories have always intrigued me. What if our world isn't actually controlled by the people we see controlling it? Who tells our world leaders what to do? I did years of research and interviewed people who believe that Reptilians are real. So even though HARKEN is fiction, some of it could be true.

Describe Harken in three words?
Conspiracies. Reptilians. Explosions.

Who was your favorite character to write?
Writing through Michael's eyes was special, but writing about Alli was the best. She is so alive and vibrant and every scene with her entertains me. It's almost as if I'm not even writing her, she's just on her own.

What draws you to this particular genre?
I like that it's unexplored. There are some conspiracy theory books out there, but not nearly as many as there are wizard or vampire books. I like taking places and events that seem normal and thinking "what if there is a secret behind this?"

If you had to choose, would you choose invisibility or the ability to fly?
The ability to fly. Being invisible is a bit lonely, but flying means you can put someone on your back and travel the world.

Is there one question you wished interviewers would ask and the answer to that question?
LittleLibraryMuse: Kaleb, why are you answering this interview in your pajamas?
Kaleb: Because I am an author and pajamas are my uniform.

About the Book
Michael Asher is almost an ordinary California teenager, except for his unexplainable ability to see a glimpse of a person’s thoughts through their eyes. After surviving an assassination attempt, he discovers that he is at the center of a worldwide conspiracy higher than any earthly power. A clandestine organization with authority over world leaders, celebrities, and the wealthy desperately wants him dead. Tumbling into a web of international secrets, Michael is forced to search for the identity of the puppet master and dig up the truth that humanity is not being told.

Genre:  YA / MG crossover
Published 3/11/2012 by Amazon Digital Svcs.
Blurb:
For Corbett Griffith III, divorce and two busy parents mean goodbye city life, hello great outdoors. With their busy Chicago careers and schedules, his parents just don't seem to have any time for him. When his mother sends him to his uncle's Wisconsin fishing resort for the summer, Corbett feels that there's no one pulling for him or caring what happens to him.

But all of that changes at Whispering Pines Lodge, Corbett learns he is never really alone, thanks to his Uncle Dell, who takes care of him, and his new friend Pike, who pulls him into one mischievous adventure after another. It's a summer of change for ten-year-old Corbett--even his name changes, when a cute girl calls him "Griffy," a nickname he likes enough to keep.

When Griffy catches two elusive walleyes, he is surprised to discover how much he likes fishing. Eager to test his newfound skills, he and Pike are stunned to hear that a seventy-pound muskie is on the loose. They resolve to catch the ferocious fish, no matter what. For Pike catching a world record muskie would be about the sport. For Griffy it would be about something more. Maybe, just maybe, if he caught that fish is parents would take notice.

Think alligator. Think prehistoric beast. Think mean.

Will they be able to catch the muskie and stop it from attacking anyone or anything?

MUSKIE ATTACK, the outdoor adventure of three adolescents named Griffy, Pike and Gil is both heartwarming and entertaining.  Griffy, a city kid, is told he will be spending the summer months in WS at Whispering Pines Lodge on Lost Land Lake with his Uncle Dell. In all his worrying, Griffy never imagines he will be part of a fishing adventure of a lifetime with his new found friends Pike and Gil.

The huge 5 foot muskie discovered in Lost Land Lake spurs a fishing contest with a reward of $5000.00. With competitors arriving from near and far, the trio is not to be outdone. Determined to win the prize and land the large fish, Griffy, Pike and Gil embark on a breathtaking adventure that even the fans of “Jaws” would be proud.G.M. Moore has created a fish tale sure to please any age looking for fun and adventure. Whether you are 8 or 98, you will be entertained.

Review & Guest Post: The Game by Shane Scollins

Author: Shane Scollins
Title: The Game
Publication: March 1, 2013
Publisher: Limitless Publishing LLC
Genre: Young Adult Thriller, Suspense

No matter where you are, they’ll find you, and put you in “The GAME”.

Candice Laguna’s life is being systematically dismantled, by an unknown force, for areason she can’t imagine. But she is about to become the unwilling star of a reality gamecompetition the likes of which has never been broadcast to the world.

Just when things get darkest, a mysterious man snatches her from the grips of doom.He is a man who is not what he seems, and not who he says. He has no name and hismotivation to help Candice is not what it seems to be.

But his selfishness has good intentions, he just wants to know who he is and where hecame from. And getting to the man orchestrating this reality game is the only way to findthe truth.

THE GAME is a mystery/thriller with an unpredictable paranormal twist. It has actionand adventure and plays up the everyday exploitation of reality television obsession gonewrong.

Thoughts: Candice gets drawn into this sick, twisted game that somehow she's been chosen to star in. It all begins when she keeps getting prank calls in the middle of the night from strangers that claim to know personal details about her life. She tries to go to the police but she doesn't have proof to show that the calls happened....thinking she's most mind, Candice tries to get away but no matter what she does they always find her. Candice must prepare to fight for her life at the hands of a foe more sinister than she ever could imagine. He's always watching and waiting to lure her into his game.

The Game will play with your mind and is not what it seems at all. What starts out as a game becomes more of a murder mystery with paranormal threads throughout. The characters are interesting. The bad guy, seriously made my stomach turn with his sadistic and calculating ways. It's truly frightening what people can do with technology and how reality T.V. has become extremely ridiculous and outrageous. The idea of privacy seems to be dwindling but anyway back to the book. The author does a good job of combining the paranormal with the overall story, though when the change in direction occurred, I admit to being a little surprised and puzzled how it would all tie together. Okay, although interesting, this totally went over my head. I don't get it but you might, so check it out.

WHY BOOK COVERS ARE TO IMPORTANT

Book covers are a vitally important part of your book. They are the first thing readers will see. They are the first impression of your work. And as much as we want to believe in that old saying that you can’t judge a book by its cover, we simply know from a marketing standpoint, that’s not even close to true.

The craziest part is that in this new publishing landscape book covers are even more important. The cover has never been more critical than it is right now. There are more books available and a greater need to distinguish yours from the pack.

Self-publishing and eReaders have put more choices in front of readers than there has ever been before. And at the same time readers are devouring books at a rate they never have. Setting your book apart from the pack is not easy, and at this stage, at the very least, you need to have a cover that will get that second look. It needs to be clean and professional.

Unless your name is King, Koontz, Patterson, Stewart or Roberts, your story is going to need a great cover. Those few big names can just put their name on the cover, some swirly sky colors next to a tree, and end up selling the lights out. Unfortunately, that won’t work for most of us.

The rest of us need a great cover that evokes the emotion of the shopper. Because lets face it, no matter how great the writing is, if the cover is horrible, no one is going to know it.

I have seen firsthand the difference a great cover can make. My publisher, Limitless Publishing, is putting out some of the best book covers on the market, period. And the cover is the window into your book. If people don’t want to look thorough the window, it won’t matter how cool the view inside is.

Excerpt #2:Speak No Evil by Tanya Anne Crosby

SPEAK NO EVIL, published by eKensington, is set near Charleston, South Carolina, where Crosby lived for many years and which remains one of her favorite cities.  It's a contemporary story of secrecy, a grand southern family in decline, and of what happens to three sisters when their mother, newspaper heiress  Florence Willodean Aldridge, unexpectedly dies.  Her daughters--Caroline, Augusta and Savannah--return for the funeral, unsurprised that the dark past they share still casts its shadow over them and their legacy.

Florence has left a number of demands, including that the sisters live together in the family home for one year or lose their inheritance, and that Caroline must take over The Tribune.  They've barely settled in when a series of kidnappings and murders resurrects memories of their brother's disappearance as a child.  Amid rising tensions, it soon becomes clear that Caroline, having unwittingly taken a major role in the investigation through The Tribune's coverage, is most likely the killer's next target.

Even as she tamps down her fear and struggles with turmoil at home and at the paper, Caroline must confront her feelings for ex fiancé, Jack Shaw, the only man she has ever loved, and perhaps the only person who stands between her and the killer.

Excerpt from Tanya Anne Crosby's SPEAK NO EVIL...
He took another swig of his Guinness and reached into his pocket to grab his cell phone. Three missed calls from Kelly. Zero from Caroline.

Then, again, he hadn’t expected Caroline to call. She was as prideful as her mother—damn her! Even ten years later, she wasn’t about to forget a stupid mistake. He set the phone down on the counter and drained his glass, eyeing the cell with some malice.

The bartender eyed him curiously. “Bad day?”

Jack shrugged. “Buried a friend,” he said.

And fought with the woman who somehow still managed to consume his thoughts even after all these years, but he didn’t offer up that part. It was nobody’s business.

Caroline was the sole reason he couldn’t settle down with Kelly, he realized. Every time he’d considered it, Caroline’s face popped into his head—like one of those annoying carnival games. He didn’t think that was the way it was supposed to be—married to one girl, obsessed with another.

There was nothing wrong with Kelly.

She just wasn’t Caroline.

“I’ll take another.”

Kyle nodded and complied.

Okay, so maybe as a description of the past several years, “obsessed” was a bit of an overstatement, because he had pretty much managed to put Caroline out of his head—except whenever lifechanging decisions were about to be made. This minute, however, it was a full-on obsession, complete with phantom touches that were hijacking his body. Just seeing her had done that to him. It left him with a sense of longing that was acutely disagreeable, and he couldn’t shake it.

Eyeing the phone again, he considered calling her—just so he could stop thinking about her—and it dawned on him that she was probably the reason he had never changed his number. That thought had never even entered his brain before this moment, but he was pretty sure it was true. He wasn’t over her. Worse, he was afraid he was never going to be over her, and the thought of living his life in limbo made him feel like chain-smoking half a dozen packs of cigarettes right in front of her.

His cell phone rang and his heart thumped hard. Then he saw the number and felt the letdown: Kelly.

He couldn’t avoid her forever.

Draining his glass once more, he took out his wallet, paid the tab, grabbed his cell, and almost as an afterthought, reached into his pocket, digging out his last pack of cigarettes, still half full, and tossed them on the bar, then walked out. The phone stopped ringing, but he would call her back. Now that it was all clear in his head, he realized holding on wasn’t fair.

It was time to let go.

Together she and Savannah made their way inside, as one by one, neighbors Caroline hadn’t seen in a decade brought sympathy along with their best casseroles. Thanking each for both, she set the food out in the dining room, noting that there was more than enough to feed an army for a year. Maybe they could donate some? She didn’t want it to go to waste and didn’t intend to remain in Charleston beyond the reading of the will. She was pretty sure her sisters had the same idea. Any arrangements that would need to be made could be handled over the phone, via e-mail and fax. That was the beauty of technology.

“My dear,” someone said sympathetically, tapping Caroline’s shoulder as she set a third dish of ambrosia salad on the buffet. Unbelievably, there was no more space on the antique Georgian table, even with its
six feet of extensions.

“Well, hello, Miss Rose!” Caroline exclaimed. “How lovely to see you!” There was no pretense in the greeting. Rose Simmons’s wrinkled face brought back memories of Caroline’s earliest years in this old house, the only good ones she could recall.

“Gracious! I wouldn’t have missed it,” Miss Rose said. “Your mother was a wonderful woman. Such a lovely funeral!” she added with unreserved approval. “I hope my children will pay their respects so beautifully!”

A prick of guilt jabbed Caroline. Everything had been prearranged. It was the one thing she could thank her mother for: Flo wasn’t the sort to leave unfinished business. She skirted the compliment. “Well, I’m
glad you could make it,” she offered with a smile, and then caught a glimpse of the figure standing in the entrance to the dining room and all thoughts flew out of her head at once.

“Oh, before I forget, I brought the greens!” Miss Rose declared. Caroline blinked, her gaze fixed on the man she had nearly married ten years before. “Greens?”

His eyes were as vivid a blue as she recalled, with points of light that dimmed or brightened based on the intensity of his smile. Right now, they were practically electric and Caroline could barely focus.
“I don’t know the Greens, Miss Rose. . . .”

Miss Rose chuckled, gently cuffing Caroline’s forearm. “Well, of course you do! You always asked after them and I remembered and brought them!”

Caroline gave the old woman a confused smile, and noticed Jack was smirking, those lights in his eyes dancing impishly. The familiar, playful grin annoyed her far more than it should have.

Miss Rose clasped a hand to her breast. “Poor sweet dear! It must be the shock,” she declared. “That’s quite understandable.” She patted Caroline’s arm consolingly. “Flo’s death was so unexpected!” She
shook her head. “Your mother will be sorely missed, but it should cheer you to know they are talking about planting a garden in Waterfront Park in her honor. I hope they do!

“The Florence Willodean Aldridge Memorial Garden,” Rose continued, but Caroline was no longer listening. The old woman peered over her shoulder to see what had captured Caroline’s attention and a sudden look of comprehension crossed her features. She smiled knowingly. “Well, goodness! I understand. I shall leave you to your guests, my dear girl. Just make sure you put some of them greens aside for later. I cooked them up just the way you like them, with a nice big ham hock!”

It dawned on Caroline suddenly that the “greens” were not people. Miss Rose had brought mustard greens. And truthfully, she hated them intensely but vaguely recalled being five at Miss Rose’s daughter’s baptism celebration and feeling incredibly guilty about wanting to spit them out. With a quelling look from her mother, she had reluctantly swallowed them and complimented Miss Rose’s greens emphatically—obviously, much too emphatically.

Miss Rose clucked at her, shaking an admonishing finger. “You always were too thin!”

Caroline’s cheeks heated as her mother’s neighbor ambled away, leaving her completely at Jack’s mercy.

The old woman gave Jack a nod on her way out of the dining room and said pleasantly, “Afternoon, Jack.”

Jack greeted her with a smile and a nod. “Afternoon, Miss Rose. You look lovely as ever.”

Miss Rose ducked her head shyly and giggled like a schoolgirl. The instant she was out of earshot, Jack turned the full impact of hisroguish smile on Caroline. “Just make sure you put some of them greens aside for later,” he teased, stirring from the doorframe and strolling into the room with a languor that was both infuriating and
reassuring in its familiarity.

“I guess your mother never taught you not to eavesdrop,” Caroline said, hating herself for giving in to feelings of resentment.

The twinkles in his eyes vanished. “We both know my mother didn’t teach me much of anything, Caroline.”

He said it calmly, congenially, but Caroline knew she’d hit a nerve. For a long awkward moment, they stood facing one another, neither quite certain what to say. The scent of wilting magnolias drifted
between them. Ten years ago, her mother had ordered the flowers as centerpieces for the tables at their wedding. Now, they adorned every corner of the house and Caroline would forever associate the scent with death and sorrow.

 Fitting, somehow.

Jack had the decency to look uncomfortable. Hands in his pockets, he peered down at the floor. “We still need to talk to Sadie,” he offered. “Finalize the report.”

“Well, I’m sure you’ll find her in the kitchen.”

It was Sadie, their mother’s housekeeper, who had discovered Flo sprawled at the foot of the stairs. Doped out on clonazepam, Flo had apparently tripped over a loose board at the top of the stairs.

“It’s just a formality,” he assured. “It can wait.”

She’d rather believe he was here because he was doing his duty for work, not because of some misplaced sense of obligation to their past. “So you’re working?”

“I came to pay my respects, not upset you. Sorry, Caroline.”

At one time, Caroline couldn’t have imagined anyone else she’d rather be comforted by. Now she didn’t even know how to talk to him. “Thanks for coming, Jack.”
He took a step backward. “You’re more like her than you realize,” he said quietly, removing his hands from his pockets. He hesitated, clearly wanting to say more. Instead, he turned and left.

Ignoring the surreptitious glances from their guests, Caroline turned her back on him. Trying hard to be casual, she stabbed a silver spoon into a dish before following Jack out into the hall to watch his
retreat.

He edged his way through the crowd, somehow avoiding human contact despite the breadth of his shoulders. He never once looked back. Without a word, he opened the front door, stepped out into the afternoon light and closed it quietly behind him.

Caroline choked on a wave of emotion. “Shit,” she said softly.

Savannah appeared behind her. “That bad?”

Caroline blinked away tears. “He said he was looking for Sadie.”

Savannah lifted a brow. “Well, I doubt that’s why he came by here today.”

“The past doesn’t change just because he wants it to!” Caroline said emphatically and Savannah nodded, wisely recognizing the end of her patience on the subject of Jack Shaw.

Review & Giveaway: Vengeance Bound by Justina Ireland

Author: Justina Ireland
Title: Vengeance Bound
Publication: April 2, 2013
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Source: ARC from Publisher/Author via ATOMR
Amazon | Indiebound
Synopsis
The Goddess Test meets Dexter in an edgy, compelling debut about one teen’s quest for revenge… no matter how far it takes her.

Cory Graff is not alone in her head. Bound to a deal of desperation made when she was a child, Cory’s mind houses the Furies—the hawk and the serpent—lingering always, waiting for her to satisfy their bloodlust. After escaping the asylum where she was trapped for years, Cory knows how to keep the Furies quiet. By day, she lives a normal life, but by night, she tracks down targets the Furies send her way. And she brings down Justice upon them.

Cory’s perfected her system of survival, but when she meets a mysterious boy named Niko at her new school, she can’t figure out how she feels about him. For the first time, the Furies are quiet in her head around a guy. But does this mean that Cory’s finally found someone who she can trust, or are there greater factors at work? As Cory’s mind becomes a battlefield, with the Furies fighting for control, Cory will have to put everything on the line to hold on to what she’s worked so hard to build.

Thoughts:

Cory is furious, literally. She has two Furies living in her head and she barely manages to have a normal life but they have a deal as long as she feeds their hunger for blood, they won't interfere in her life. Yet, when Cory meets Niko something changes and she may not have as much power as she first thought. Cory's worried that one day she'll lose complete control and then the Furies will be in charge. She'll just be in the background, lost in their blind lust for blood and justice. The Furies know that as long as she harbors rage towards finding the person she holds responsible for the death of her grandmother, they have her. Cory must decide if the chance at love will ease the burning fury within or will she succumb to her rage?

This is Ireland's first book and it's really good. Mythology has always been one of my favorites subjects, so any book that incorporates it is a must read for me. I like how the author went about making the Furies apart of Cory and her struggle to cope with these new inhabitants in her head is fascinating. It makes Cory crazy but the fact that she tries to do what is right when they want chaos makes her a relatable heroine. The writing and action flow well. The characters are interesting, there's this one character that I found to be quite unbalanced, who befriends Cory at her new school. The chic is crazy but she makes the story entertaining. Overall, I liked how the story moves and this is a good read. I think this may be a series or trilogy because the ending seemed open for another book. I look forward to more!

Trailer Reveal: Flame in the Mist by Kit Grindstaff

There's evil-a coming from up on the hill
If the Mist doesn't get you, the Agromonds will.
   —From an old Anglavian rhyme

Excerpt:

Thunder roared, and lightning speared down. In its brief flashes, Jemma could see more shadows gathering. They looked like pale Mordsprites, small, bedraggled, skeletal. She lengthened her stride, but the ground was slick and she slipped, slamming face down in black mud. Hauling herself to her feet yet again, she came face to face with one of the shadows.

It was not a Mordsprite at all, but the gray silhouette of a child, a sunken-cheeked, hollow-eyed boy of no more than five, his ragged arms reaching out to her through the Mist.

Jemma stood petrified, her heart pounding as he swayed closer, oblivious to the chaos raining down around him. Others closed in behind him, a straggling band of waifs, all moving in the same direction.

Toward her.

Praise:

"Fast, creepy fun. A bit of The Addams Family, a bit of dark fantasy, and a boatload of monsters and magic make this read a ghoulish delight." - Stefan Bachmann, author of The Peculiar

About the Book

The sun never shines in the land of Anglavia. Its people live within a sinister mist created by their rulers, the cruel Agromond family. The Agromonds' control is absolute; no one dares defy them. But things are about to change, for the youngest of them is not like the others...

Fiery-headed Jemma has always felt like the family misfit, and is increasingly disturbed by the dark goings-on at Agromond Castle. The night before her thirteenth birthday, Jemma discovers the terrifying reason why: She is not who she thinks she is, and the Agromonds have a dreadful ritual planned for her birthday—a ritual that could kill her.

But saving her skin is just the first of Jemma's ordeals. Ghosts and outcasts, a pair of crystals, a mysterious book, an ancient Prophecy—all these gradually reveal the truth about her past, and a destiny far greater and more dangerous than any she could imagine.

With her trusted friend, Digby, and her two telepathic golden rats, Noodle and Pie, Jemma faces enemies both human and supernatural. But in the end, she and her untapped powers might be the only hope for a kingdom in peril.
