For millennia we’ve caught only glimpses of the lives and loves of the gods and goddesses on Olympus. Now Aimée Carter pulls back the curtain on how they became the powerful, petty, loving and dangerous immortals that Kate Winters knows.

CALLIOPE/HERA REPRESENTED CONSTANCY AND YET HAD A HUSBAND WHO NEVER MATCHED HER FAITHFULNESS....
FIVE ORIGINAL NOVELLAS OF LOVE, LOSS AND LONGING AND THE WILL TO SURVIVE THROUGHOUT THE AGES.
AVA/APHRODITE WAS THE GODDESS OF LOVE AND YET COMMITMENT WAS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT DEAL....
PERSEPHONE WAS URGED TO MARRY ONE MAN, YET LONGED FOR ANOTHER....
JAMES/HERMES LOVED TO MAKE TROUBLE FOR OTHERS—BUT NEVER KNEW TRUE LOSS BEFORE....
HENRY/HADES’S SOLITARY EXISTENCE HAD GROWN TOO WEARISOME TO CONTINUE. BUT MEETING KATE WINTERS GAVE HIM A NEW HOPE....
FIVE ORIGINAL NOVELLAS OF LOVE, LOSS AND LONGING AND THE WILL TO SURVIVE THROUGHOUT THE AGES.

I enjoyed reading how events transpired to make these five the way they are. The first story focuses on Hera and her relationship with Zeus. Anyone that is knowledgeable about mythology knows he cheats on Hera a lot. It has to be rough being the goddess of marriage and fidelity and having a husband that could give a rats butt about it. For me, Zeus is a jerk in this one and a snake after his prey. Basically once he gets what he wants, the thrill of the chase is no longer important, and her feelings seem to mean nothing to him. He is power hungry and in a way, she may be just a little bit. This is what leads to her craziness and may just come to bite Zeus in his bottom. Now, I don't want to fault Zeus or the others for her actions because she is an individual that can choose to be better but she is being lead by her emotional mind rather than what's right in her heart. Hera’s pride can prove to be deadly.

Aphrodite is in love but has been betrothed to a man she doesn't want to marry. She wants to be able to live her life as she chooses but her Daddy Zeus has other plans for her and feels that he knows best. However, Aphrodite knows her heart and it belongs to Ares not Hephaestus. She realizes that the only way to have who she desires is to leave Olympus. I like her story and her emotional battle with her confusion and uncertainty about what she truly needs.

Persephone's story does nothing to endear me to her at all. She can be so darn frustrating. She really doesn't give Hades a chance and the fact that she know he loves her, just sucks. This story shows how insensitive she is to how he feels because she is so focused on what is bothering her. She knew she was going to have to marry him...she should have ran away before then, and maybe poor Hades wouldn't be so damaged by it. It's irritating that she feels that being intimate with him will make her love him, which is absolutely incorrect. But then again she was forced into it by her parents for whatever reason. I also suspect that something else interfered and caused her to act towards him the way she did.

The last two stories are about Hermes and Hades, who both suffer loss in different ways. I liked getting see more of what makes Hermes the way he is and how alone he feels in his family because they fault him for certain things that happened. He seems more human and in that aspect he plays a role in helping his family figure out why gods are disappearing. Hades story gives a more heartbreaking reality to the loss of all the girls who failed and how close he comes to completely giving up on existing. It is so fascinating that Hades and Hermes have so much in common but unfortunate circumstances have distanced them. I wonder if they will ever be able to have more of a friendship. Overall, these stories provide good insight into the making of the gods and what makes them act the way they do in the series.

Thoughts: She is in your face and really true to who she is, well other than when Alex Deal is in the picture. She toots to her own tune and is truly one of a kind. I ABSOLUTELY love Casey. Her story begins with the secret playlists she makes for classmates she feels need the music to help them get through. At first, I thought this is what the book would be about but it was more than that. Music is the key to Casey figuring out who she wants to be. At the moment she is all about getting Alex to like her and is willing to sacrifice herself to be with him. Ben her classmate that she cheats off of, if only he would move his arm so she could see, is trying to get Casey to see that Alex is not all that. Casey seems to be one of those people you can't tell but have to show for them to realize the truth. I could identify with her humor and insecurities about her life. This is a really cute story and it was good to see how all the characters grow into individuals. The pace   is steady and the writing is witty but realistic.

Favorite Quote: "I may not be female but I do know this: most female creatures our age are under the impression that the boyfriend's going to get them where they want to go. And I'm here to tell you you're the one who has to do it. He will follow."

To be Biebered or not to be Biebered

My book is about a teenage girl obsessed with music so I think it only appropriate that I blog about music.  Namely, a pop song, and the pop singer who made it famous...the interesting part being that the singer isn’t the one who sang the song.

The story goes like this: Justin Bieber said in an interview that “Call Me Maybe,” an obscure Canadian ditty by Carly Rae Jepsen, was the best pop song of the year.  From the moment that interview ran the song and Jepsen shot to stardom.

Now don’t get me wrong.  I believe in the power of a great pop song.  I generally listen to indie rock but “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry is one of my all-time favorites.  It is so good that I think she deserved to be catapulted into fame the way she has.

When I read about “Call My Maybe” I could not wait to download it.  But then I listened and, to be honest, was confused.  The hook, the string sample in the middle of the chorus, is classic recording studio theatrics.  And the lyrics are dumb.

But that has not in the slightest way stopped the rise of the song.  It is everywhere.  There’s even a video of Carly doing an interview on the WARPED tour website, which begs two questions.  One: Why?  Two: Which presidential candidate is getting the Bieber endorsement?  Clearly it’s a powerful one.

Interview with Casey & Ben
LLM:Casey, why did you decide to start writing the play lists? What impact do you feel they have?
I think the fate of the world lies in what people choose to listen to.  Call me extreme, people have, but that's my deal. There are a few people at my high school who have admirable taste in music.  The other day I was walking down the hall and heard Death Cab For Cutie tinning out of a guy's walkman.  I went to pat him on the back only right at that moment he bent over to get something from his locker so I ended up patting his butt.  Whoops.  I got out of there fast!  Point being, I have classmates who know what to listen to.  But then there's the rest of them.  To be honest it's not their fault.  It's not like popular radio is feeding them good tunes and how do you expect girls to act when they have Carly Rae Jepsen on their iPods?  Of course they're going to scream in the halls and form cliques and act like bullies. It's like giving a child a nonstop diet of sugar.  So, to answer your question, I write my playlists because I think the quickest and happiest path for an annoying classmate to become a cool classmate is by listening to good music.  My playlists facilitate that.  And, yes, I definitely think they're working.  A few weeks back I slipped one to a girl in my history class who always told on people when they cheated on tests and she hasn't done it since. See?
LLM:Casey, What is about Alex Deal that you find appealing?
I don't know.  Rather, I know there are some things about him that are not so appealing.  But it's one of those situations where from the first moment we spoke I had this reaction to him that was uncontrollable.  Maybe it was because he's a little older, a bit mysterious, kind of a jerk... maybe it was those eyes of his.  Whatever the reason, I had to be with him.
LLM:Casey& Ben...If you could travel back through music history, where would you go and why?
Casey: I would go to Seattle when the grunge bands were first getting big.  It seems like that was an exciting scene.
Ben: Really? I'd go back to the 60s and play Woodstock.
Casey: I'm sorry but, what are you, 85?
Ben: Shut up.
LLM:Casey, If you could change one thing, what would that be?
I would make sure a talent scout from a record label was there for our talent show performance so me and Pop Wire could get signed.
LLM:Ben, what is the hardest part about knowing Casey? Best Part?
Ben: The hardest part is that she's a little crazy and self-centered.  Casey: What the--?   Ben: Just listen!  The BEST part is that she's fearless, funny, kinder than she lets on, and very talented.
Casey: You're forgiven, but only just.
LLM:Casey, where do you get your inspiration to write your songs? Casey: From school and my life. From you, Ben.  Ben: I paid her to say that.
LLM:Casey, You seem like such an outspoken person, so why are you afraid to sing in front of a crowd?
Well I got over that fear, but I was scared in the beginning because writing songs was so important to me and I was nervous that if I played in front of people and they didn't like it, it would totally kill me.
LLM:Ben, why do you think Casey is such a rebel? Casey, your thoughts about this?
Ben: Well I think it's a bit of a shield of armor.
Casey: Oh my God.

Ben: I'm still answering the question.  I THINK being funny and irreverent makes her feel like no one can hurt her.
Casey: Or maybe I'm just funny and irreverent because that's just the way I am.
Ben: Or maybe that's it.

LLM:Why is music so important to you both?
Casey: It just is.  It's one of the few things that can immediately change my mood.  And writing songs is like this escape from everyday life.  It's a gift.  I get to come from awful high school every day and create my own world of music.
Ben: Yeah I'd pretty much say the same thing.

LLM:Casey, Ben...Finish this sentence. I hope ____
Casey:You go first.
Ben: No you.
Casey: I hope our first album goes platinum.
Ben: I hope we're still, um, hanging out, in a year.
Casey: Damn, I knew you were going to say something about us.
Ben: Now who feels like a jerk?

~Excerpt from Chapter 9
“Hey, you,” I said as Jensen opened the front door before I could even knock. He had a strained look on his face, like he was upset with me but was trying not to be. “I know you said you were fine, but I don’t believe you,” he said by way of greeting. “I woke up last night feeling like something happened to you.”
“Want to talk out here or can I come in?” I asked feeling a little awkward.
“Oh,” he cleared his throat, “yeah, sure.” He stepped aside to let me in.
We walked to the kitchen. Jensen opened the cupboard and pulled out two glasses, setting them on the counter that I was leaning a hip against. He moved to the fridge and pulled out a pitcher of lemonade, pouring us each a glass. Once he’d put the pitcher away and walked back over to me, leaning his opposite hip against the counter, mirroring my stance, he raised an eyebrow at me.
“It was just a bad dream,” I said. “Okay,” I sighed as he continued to stare at me, “a really, really bad dream.”
“Bad dream like ‘Ian bad dream’?” he asked, referring to his evil twin brother.
“Yeah, like Ian bad,” I said with a nod before I sipped the sweet lemonade. I went on to fill him in on all that he had missed since he and I had run into the boys on the beach.
“Wow,” he said finally when I was finished. “You’ve been busy.” It would’ve been funny if he didn’t look so upset.
“Yeah, kinda.” I could feel the tension snapping in the air between us, but as usual I couldn’t read him.
“So when you texted that you were fine, you weren’t really fine,” he said, setting his glass on the counter.
“Jensen,” I started to say, but he picked up a hand and waved me off.
“No,” he said, “I get it; you didn’t want to talk to me about it.”
“No, I didn’t,” I agreed, setting my own glass down. “I texted you after I had woken up, after passing out from pain from the dream. I didn’t want to talk to anyone right at that moment.”
We stared at each other for a few silent moments. I thought about leaving, realizing he had made his mind up about being mad at me, I just wish we could have done this over the phone. I felt like shit seeing the anger on his face.
“I guess,” he paused, staring at me, “I guess I understand that. It just would’ve been nice if you had answered your phone this morning.”
“I had to go replenish my power and then I saw Deb, I didn’t hear my phone.”
“You went to see Deb,” he said it low, more to himself than to me. I couldn’t read his emotions, but he was obviously mad that I had turned to someone else when I was in need. I had no idea what to say to fix this; we were fighting like a boyfriend and a girlfriend even though I had tried very hard to make sure that couldn’t happen.
At a loss for words, I stepped forward, closing the small distance between us, wrapping my arms around his neck and rising up my on my toes to press a kiss to his red red lips. His fingers found the tops of my hips, pressing into the bone as he gripped, almost hurting, but stopping at just this side of pain. I pressed my hips into his and was rewarded with a soft rumble in his throat that vibrated against his lips and into my mouth, tasting as sweet as honey.
Jensen broke our kiss with a frustrated noise. “It’s just so damn hard to know something is wrong with you and not be able to do anything about it.”
“Jensen, it was a dream, there isn’t anything any one could do about it. It’s just part of my whole deal,” I willed him to understand but was met with stony silence. Just as I was about to pull away from him and leave he caught me in his arms and crushed his lips to mine again, desperate and hungry for an outlet for his frustration.
A swirling energy rose up inside me and I remembered all of that power I had replenished on the mountain. A spark snapped between our bodies, zipping up to our joined hands and darting between my hips and his fingers. Jensen broke away from me in a gasp at first, but as I locked eyes with him, feeling the power practically glowing behind my eyes, he grabbed me suddenly and lifted me up. My legs were around his waist in a second and he was walking us out of the kitchen and down the hall.

Frost Tour: Review

Author: Kate Avery Ellison
Title: Frost
Publication: March 29, 2012
Audience:Young Adult
Rating: 3.5 out 5
Source: Author
Twitter | Blog | Goodreads
Synopsis
In the icy, monster-plagued world of the Frost, compassion might get you killed, and Lia Weaver knows this better than anyone. After the monsters kill her parents, she must keep the family farm running or risk losing her siblings to reassignment by the village Elders. With dangers on all sides, she can’t afford to let her emotions lead her astray. But when her sister finds a fugitive bleeding to death in the forest, a young man from beyond the Frost named Gabe, Lia does the unthinkable.

She saves his life.

Giving shelter to the fugitive could get her in trouble, for the Elders have always described the advanced society of people beyond the Frost, the “Farthers,” as dangerous and cruel. Lia is startled to find that Gabe is empathetic and intelligent—and handsome. And she might even be falling for him.

But time is running out. The monsters in the forest are growing bold and restless. The village leader is starting to ask questions. Farther soldiers are searching for Gabe. Is compassion—and love—worth the risk?

Finally, when a startling discovery challenges everything she thought was true about her life, Lia realizes exactly what she must do.

Thoughts:I thought this story was interesting. Lia is a brave girl because I most definitely would not walk in the forest alone knowing something is out there that could shred me to pieces. I am curious about the creatures in the forest and why they are so drawn to techno stuff. I want to know why the people of this world harbor so much hatred towards one another and why they live the way they do. This is revealed some in the book but it seems it is more to it than that. Which, I am quite sure will be answered in the later books.
Lia is an orphan, leaving her responsible for her siblings, and if they don't continue to make their quota, they could be separated. Separation would be bad for all them, she could be married off to someone she doesn't love and her sibling could end up in places with people who could care less about them. So, one day after leaving town she comes home to find her sister missing and has discovered the stranger, Gabe, injured in the woods. She begs Lia to help him not knowing that in saving him many secrets and lies would be revealed. I liked how the author mixed technology with a dystopian, fantasy twist. The mystery leading up to the end was good and the characters were believable. I liked that the romance aspect was subtle, not so intense but sweet. Now, the story pace was slower than I would have liked but other than that it is an okay read.

Guest Post with Author Kate Hinderer

Hi. I’m author Kate Hinderer and I’m pleased to be guest posting for the day as part of the book blog tour for The Emerald Isle. With the popularity of books becoming movies and TV shows, it’s pretty common for authors to envision who would play the role of their main characters if the book were ever to hit the silver screen. Yet, at the same time, I have to say that no one entirely measures up to the character you’ve created in your mind and jotted down in the book. Still, here’s my best shot at who I’d love to see act in The Emerald Isle if it ever.

Audyn – Nina Dobrev – I admit to a slight obsession with theVampire Diaries! And while I do think at times Nina is awkward on the show, I also think that is the role she is supposed to play. I like that she is strong and independent.

Tristan – Chris Pine – Actually, I had vision of the Greek model Theo Theodoridis while writing this. I think he looks perfectly like Tristan, only with slightly lighter hair. But he’s a model and not an actor. Chris Pine has those dreamy blue eyes that would be perfect for the role.

Falcon – Adam Gregory or Brant Daugherty – I really can’t pick between the two. Perhaps after I finish writing the second book in the series, which will focus more on Falcon, I’ll be able to pick between the two. For now it would be a coin toss.

Linley – Selena Gomez – While her hair is brown the wardrobe and makeup departments can do wonders for things like that! I think she has the young and sweet demeanor that is so crucial to Linley’s character.

Levi – Jake Abel or Colton Haynes – Again, I can’t pick. They both have the looks of Levi, generally speaking. Maybe I need to see more of their acting prowess to figure out which would be better.

Molly – Amanda Bynes – Seriously, why did she stop acting? Sydney White, She’s the Man, all hilarious. She’s be great for Molly – the flighty, incessant talker.

Rive – Chris Hemsworth – Blame it on the fact that I just saw Thor for the first time, thank you Netflix! But I think he would be perfect for this dark character.

Tim – Jesse McCartney – I have a thing for Jesse McCartney and always want to see him put in a book turned movie of mine, I think I listed him in the cast list for Aurora Undefined as well. Despite the focus on his pop career the guy really can act! Check out his movie Keith or his appearance on SVU!

Jim Riche – Johnny Depp – How can you have a movie without Johnny Depp? No but seriously. He could play the role of the rich resort owner perfectly.

About the Book
To escape a bad break-up and fighting parents Audyn takes a job as a lifeguard at Fascination Island. The posh five-star resort lives up to its name in every way, including the strange rules the owner has about entering the water at night. Despite declaring it a boy-free summer, it isn’t long before the shy, endearing Levi and the mysterious, tattooed Tristan begin vying for her attention. When Levi tries to push his advantage and Tristan comes to the rescue, Audyn realizes there is more to both these boys and the island they inhabit. Suddenly, she’s forced to acknowledge a reality she’d never considered and to pick a side in the conflict that has been waging for decades.

Excerpt & Guest Post with Author Imogen Rose of Intiation

An Interview with Jagger
I have to be honest. I approached this interview with some hesitation, perhaps even a little trepidation. After all, even though I feel I know him a bit through Cordelia, I’ve never experienced Jagger directly. As he sits before me, I can empathize with Cordelia. He is impossibly magnetic, his aura both powerful and dangerous, the only release, a hint of humor gleaming in his silver-gray eyes.
IR: Jagger, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Are you excited about starting a new year at the Academy?
Jagger: My pleasure. I am, though I’m not exactly sure what my role will be this year. I guess I’ll find out when I get there.
IR: So, you’re not heading back as the Student Council President?
Jagger: I wouldn’t think so. That position is usually only awarded for a year. Plus, my time at the academy is officially over.
IR: Why are you going back, then?
Jagger: Mainly to keep an eye on my brother, Ryker.
IR: And Cordelia?
Jagger: Yes, hmm. You said that you had some questions from my fans...
IR: I do! Here is one from Sean Sweeney. He wants to know what you got Cordelia for Valentine’s Day.
Jagger: Myself. However, like any girl, she obviously needed a “token” as well. I got her a little secret something from Harry Winston.
IR: Nice! The next question is about Cordelia as well. Al Kunz, the infamous celeb book blogger, aka The Snake, wants to know what really happened on the slopes. He wants details.
Jagger: He couldn’t handle the details.
IR: LOL! There you have it, Al! Moving on... Michelle Cable wants to know what you thought when you first saw Cordelia and what you thought of that electrifying kiss.
Jagger: That she’s stunning is apparent to all who are lucky enough to behold her. I was struck by her beauty as soon as I saw her, when she first arrived at the academy. It was my policy to stay away from demons, though. Every kiss with her is electrifying, but I’m guessing you mean our very first kiss. I was shocked, but immediately realized what had happened.
IR: Too bad that doesn’t happen to humans. Synching sounds unbelievably intimate...
Jagger: It is, but the realization that one is bound forever to this one being frightening, too. That’s unnatural in the supernatural world.
IR: I can see that. Faustine seems to bridge the gap between the human and the paranormal worlds. My daughter Lauren wants to know what you think of Faustine, and Vickie Boehnlein wants to know if you’re scared of Faustine.
Jagger: I love Faustine. She’s like a little sister to me. I feel very protective of her, even though I know that she can take care of herself. And yes, I’m scared of her. I’d be stupid not to be. She’s one of the most powerful demons I’ve ever come across.
IR: Demons seem to like their food, meat in particular. Lynn O’Dell would like to know if you prefer filet mignon or T-bones?
Jagger: I’m not a demon, but I do prefer Filet Mignon.
IR: That doesn’t surprise me. I have a last question from my friend Allirea Brumley. She wants to know what’s going to happen to you next?
Jagger: I’m not a Wanderer, so a trip into the future to answer that is not possible. Say “hi” to her from me, though. I love her name... Allirea. Is she a faery?
IR: Ha, ha. No, I don’t think so. Thank you so much, Jagger!

Excerpt:
“Well, Cordelia, are you glad to be back?”
“Yes. Why did you ask for me?”
“Ah, straight to the point.” His eyes narrowed into slits. “Very plucky. Most would have the sense to be more fearful and not ask questions,” he growled softly.
I held my breath, controlling my instincts. A snarl was always a signal for me to transform. But, I held back, on full alert.
“I was told that about you. And that’s one of the reasons you’re here. You’ve been appointed as a mentor.”
It was my turn to smirk. I got to my feet. “I can’t be appointed anything. Thanks for thinking of me, though. I guess it’s some kind of honor. But, no thanks.” I made my way to the door.
And crashed right into Jagger’s chest. I should have anticipated his move; lightning-fast location transfer was something covered in the first semester. I clumsily stepped back, then met his darkened gaze.
He lowered his head, brushing his nose along my neckline, breathing me in. I stood dead still, letting my fingers fuse. I shivered as his lips found my right ear, his every breath forming icicles against my skin. Then, he touched my fused fingers.
“Easy, demon princess. Relax.”
I boiled over with anger. Who the fuck did he think I was? Some silly human girl who’d melt under his pathetic attempt at intimidation? Not so.
“Step back, and I will.” My words were supposed to come out in a firm demonic growl, but instead, they slithered out in an unfortunate raspy whisper.
He chuckled under his breath and took a half step back. He needed to be taught not to mess with demons. Slapping the smirk off his face would be too much of a cliché. My mischievous demon instincts took over.
As the corners of his lips curled into a leer, I jerked up my arm and swiftly wrapped my fingers around the back of his neck, pulling his face down to mine. His eyes widened in surprise, but he made no move to resist as I stood on tiptoes and roughly parted his lips with mine. I kept my eyes wide open, gazing into his, as I explored his mouth, drinking him in. He yielded under my touch. The kiss became more and more fervent, until a surge of hot and cold, of terror and excitement, zapped through me–and him, by the surprise on his face–leaving us shocked and unable to move. Our eyes remained locked together as we stood suspended in time.
Jagger looked as dazed as I felt. His eyes searched mine, but I had nothing to offer, no explanation. Then, it hit me. Dad had mentioned the extremely rare phenomenon. I raked through my mind, trying to remember what he had said.
Listen for his heartbeat, synch with it.

PORTAL, Imogen’s first novel, would have remained in her imagination, to be shared only with her daughter, Lauren, had her eight-year-old not insisted that she write it down. In the course of a month, Imogen typed while Lauren waited eagerly by the printer for the pages to appear, and a novel took shape.
The warm reception PORTAL received encouraged her to continue with the story and the Portal Chronicles. The Bonfire Chronicles is Imogen’s new YA paranormal series.

Yes, there are F.E.M.A. prison camps, but they were purposely constructed to distract us from the TRUE PRISON CAMPS; the prison camps that will detain those citizens that refuse to be implanted with the comingbiochips….
Did you know, the Military has built its own prison system right here in the United States, and these prisons are notfor housing military prisoners?  In factmilitary prisoners(soldiers who have been court martial-ed and transferred into the BOP system) are band from being housed in these prisons located on military bases!
Everyone has heard about the F.E.M.A. prison camps. If it was such a secret, why does everyone know about them?  They are small, insignificant pieces of property enclosed with razor-wire topped fences and a few guard towers.  Have you seen the pictures? I mean, how many prisoners do you think these few F.E.M.A. camps could hold?
Of course, right now, most of these prisons located on military property are housing federal inmates for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP).  A few of these prisons are already empty, waiting! For what
However, like the book The Miracle Chip, when the BOP starts administering the biochips to the prisoners, under the New Prison Reform Act, and the federal prison population is reduced tremendously, all of these prisoners housed on military property will be transferred back into the BOP institutions.   This will leave the military with a complete prison system in place; vacant… ready to be filled with detainees.
National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2012contains controversial provisions that allow the military to detain suspects (citizens) without due process or habeas corpus.
Now, you know where these citizens will be detained! Unlike these F.E.M.A. camps this prison system will be able to hold a mass number of the population without a problem.
In  this book, The Miracle Chip you will take a exciting journey with Sergeant Major Tracy Long and discover what it will be like when the military takes control of its prison system!
