Character Interview:Harrison from Golden Blood by Melissa Pearl

What were you thoughts the first time you saw Gemma?
I thought she was the most stunning thing I'd ever seen. She has these amazing eyes that just pierce you and, well I mean, come on, she's one sexy chick. I really wanted to talk her that day, but after I smiled at her she went white and turned the other way. (He laughs).
What is one thing about yourself that Gemma doesn’t know and you can share with us?
Hmmm - that's a tough one. Me and Gem talk about a lot of stuff. I don't like secrets much. But... she probably would be horrified if I told her about my shoplifting phase. I don't know what was wrong with me. I was just being a jerk. We'd moved town again and I was angry with my mom about it. Bryan was new on the scene. I liked him and the family, but I was a little annoyed at having to share my mother. The guy who owned the general store down the road was real scrooge and told me off one day because he thought I was trying to steal something. I thought I'd teach him a lesson and next time I went in, I took something without paying. It became this game. I was determined to get as much stuff out of that store as I could. Bryan caught me doing it one day. I didn't realize he'd followed me, apparently he'd seen my stash under the bed. He pulled me aside and promised he wouldn't tell anyone as long as I returned everything. That was the most shameful day of my life. Thankfully Bryan came with me and the shopkeeper was surprisingly good about it.
If you could do one thing over again or differently what would it be?
Ahhh - regret. Yes, regret does suck, but I'm also of the philosophy that crappy stuff happens to us so we can learn. Everytime I think about mistakes from my past and wish them away, I realize that if things hadn't happened that way, I wouldn't be where I am today. So, there's nothing I'd change about my life so far. Maybe I wish I'd tried to pursue Gemma the day I saw her, but I think I would have just scared her away. Things happen when they happen for a reason. I guess that's why I sometimes have issues with what Gemma and her family do.
What is the hardest and the best part about knowing Gemma?
The best part is getting to be with her. I know this sounds really cheesy, but she makes me feel alive. When I'm around her the world is just brighter and better. Being with her makes me happy. The hardest part is the whole secrecy thing and the travel thing can suck sometimes too. I worry about her. I wish I could take her out of this situation and protect her, but I know I can't.
What scares you the most?
That something will happen to Gemma when she's across the line. That she'll leave one day and never come back. What would I do? What could I do? In that sense I feel totally powerless and that's not a very nice feeling.
What makes you happiest?
Having one of those magic days where Gem doesn't travel and it's like we're these two, normal teenage kids who are carefree and in love and the future holds whatever we want it to. Those days are like gold.
Thanks for coming by to chat, hope to see you again!

About the Book
Gemma Hart never knows when her father is going to whisk her back in time. Her toes start tingling and she has a few minutes to find a secret haven where she can disintegrate and appear in another time and place. While “across the line,” her training and skills are put to the test as she completes a mission that will change history for the lucky few her father has selected.
Gemma's parents are adamant that secrecy is paramount to her family’s safety. If people knew what they were capable of, they could be "used and abused", as her mother always says. Afraid she might accidentally utter the truth and break the ancient oath of her people, Gemma spends her school days as a loner. Only one thing can throw her sheltered life askew... Harrison Granger.
Harrison never expected to talk to the strange Hart girl, but after a brief encounter he can't stop thinking about her. He begins a campaign to chisel away her icy veneer and is met with unexpected consequences. As he slowly wins this girl over, he enters a surreal world that has him fighting to keep his newfound love and his life.
